Guide
The MyInvois Portal, From the Accounting Firm’s Side.
Every guide online walks a director through their first login. Almost none explain what happens when one firm handles the portal for forty clients. Roles, representatives, intermediaries, switching taxpayers — and what to do when it is down.
Step One
The first login belongs to the director
You cannot do this part for the client. Send them these five steps, then take over.
- Go to mytax.hasil.gov.my and log in with the director’s own ID type, ID number and password. The very first MyInvois login for a company must be done by a director — staff and firms cannot do it on their behalf.
- On the MyTax dashboard, open the MyInvois menu in the top navigation bar.
- Accept the terms and conditions and continue.
- Complete the Taxpayer Profile: check the pre-filled company details, add or correct the SST number and tax registration number, set the notification language and contacts, then save. Name and ID number cannot be edited here.
- Complete the User Profile (notification language and e-mail), save, and wait for the confirmation page. The company now exists in MyInvois and the director can grant access to others.
After this, the director applies for staff roles in MyTax and can appoint your firm under the Representatives section of the Taxpayer Profile. Whether that appointment should be a representative or an intermediary is the next section.
Where Firms Get Stuck
Four things the director’s guide never told you
Each one shows up as a support ticket in the first week.
“Why can’t I switch to this taxpayer profile?”
Because there is no approved role binding your login to that company in MyTax. Switch Taxpayer only lists companies where your ID already holds a role (director, or a representative role the director applied for and LHDN approved). Fix it in MyTax’s role application first, not in MyInvois.
Representative and intermediary are not the same thing
A representative is a person — a staff member or you — given permissions on the client’s taxpayer profile. An intermediary is an organisation with its own TIN, appointed under the client’s Taxpayer Profile with a date range and permissions, and it submits under its own credentials. A firm handling submissions for many clients is usually the intermediary; a firm just checking a client’s documents needs a representative role.
An intermediary sees only what it submitted
LHDN limits intermediaries, for privacy reasons, to the e-Invoices they submitted on the client’s behalf. Documents the client issued itself, and every e-Invoice the client received from suppliers, are not visible to the intermediary. Plan the purchase-side work accordingly — the portal will not hand you the client’s supplier invoices.
Production and sandbox are separate worlds
Production is myinvois.hasil.gov.my; the sandbox is preprod.myinvois.hasil.gov.my. Profiles, roles, ERP registrations and client ID/secret pairs do not carry across. Production credentials in the sandbox return 403 Forbidden. Register in the environment you intend to use.
Operations
When the portal is down
Maintenance windows and outages happen, and they look like a page that never loads or a 502 Bad Gateway. Three habits keep an outage from becoming a compliance problem:
- Check HASiL’s official announcements before troubleshooting your own network.
- Keep timestamped evidence of each failed attempt. The 72-hour submission window is the risk during an outage, and a dated record of trying is what you want in the file.
- Do not re-key a document that may have gone through. The portal treats a document as a duplicate when type, issuance date and time, internal number and supplier TIN all match within two hours — outside that window a re-submission creates a second valid document.
Whether a client needs to be in the portal at all changed on 1 September 2026 — see the RM3 million exemption threshold and its group-ownership test.
The Other Half
The portal covers what the client sells, not what they buy
An intermediary cannot see the client’s received e-Invoices, and exempt suppliers keep issuing ordinary invoices. The purchase side still has to be keyed in.
That purchase-side work — supplier invoices, receipts and statements becoming posted entries — is what BalanceNow does: it reads the documents, keys them in, and posts approved entries straight into AutoCount and SQL Accounting. It does not submit e-Invoices; the portal, your accounting software’s e-Invoice module, or an intermediary does that.
If you still move purchase documents by spreadsheet, the import mechanics are in our guides to AutoCount and SQL Account imports, and the wider questions firms ask us are in the FAQ.
Questions
MyInvois Portal FAQ
- How do I access the MyInvois Portal?
- Through MyTax. Log in at mytax.hasil.gov.my with your ID type, ID number and password, then open the MyInvois menu on the top navigation bar. There is no separate MyInvois password — your MyTax login is the credential, and the companies you can act for are the ones your ID holds a role in.
- Who does the first-time login for a company?
- A director. The first login creates the taxpayer profile and the director’s user profile; only after that can the director apply for roles for staff or appoint the firm as representative or intermediary. If you are an accountant setting a client up, the practical first step is a five-minute call walking the director through it.
- How do I switch between clients in the MyInvois Portal?
- Click the profile icon in the top-right corner of the Home page and choose Switch Taxpayer, then select the company. If the company is missing from the list, your login does not yet hold an approved role for it — that is a MyTax role-application issue, not a portal fault.
- How do I add an intermediary in the MyInvois Portal?
- The client (or someone with the right permission on the client’s profile) opens the Taxpayer Profile, scrolls to the Representatives section, chooses Intermediary, adds the intermediary’s details, sets the effective dates and picks the permissions to grant. The intermediary then submits under its own credentials.
- Is the MyInvois Portal down today?
- Outages and maintenance windows do happen, and they show up as pages that will not load or a 502 Bad Gateway. Check HASiL’s official announcements before assuming the fault is on your side, keep timestamped evidence of the failed attempts, and retry. The compliance concern during an outage is the 72-hour submission window, which is why evidence of the attempt matters.
- What is the 72-hour rule?
- A document whose issuance date and time is more than 72 hours old is rejected on submission (“issuance date time value of the document is too old”). Issue and submit within that window. Note also that the issuance time must be in UTC — a document that appears to be “in the future” is usually a timezone formatting problem.
- Why does TIN validation fail even though the TIN is correct?
- Usually formatting. Individual TINs now use the IG prefix in place of OG or SG. Non-individual TINs must end in 0 — add one if it does not — and leading zeros after the prefix must be removed (C01234567890 becomes C1234567890). Confirm the TIN through MyTax if it still fails.
- Can I print e-Invoices from the portal?
- Only documents submitted manually through the portal can be printed there. Documents submitted through the API by accounting software or an intermediary cannot be printed from the portal — the software that submitted them is where the printable version lives.
- Does BalanceNow submit e-Invoices to MyInvois?
- No. BalanceNow works on the purchase side — reading supplier documents and posting approved entries into AutoCount and SQL Accounting. e-Invoice submission is the sales side, and it is handled by the portal, by your accounting software’s own e-Invoice module, or by an intermediary. The two jobs sit next to each other in the same month-end, which is why we wrote this guide.
